Former Greater Accra Regional Minister, Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus Glover, has criticised the reported GH¢1.5 million spent on this year’s Ghana Independence Day celebration at the Jubilee House, arguing that an event organised within the presidency should not attract such a high cost.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, he strongly disagreed with the government’s reported expenditure.

“I have a huge problem with it. I totally disagree with the government for saying that GH¢1.5 million was spent on the Independence Day celebration,” he stated.

According to him, the scale and location of the event should have significantly reduced the cost since it was held within the presidency rather than at a large public venue.

Titus Glover insisted that such an amount is difficult to justify for a ceremony organised at the seat of government, stressing that public spending on national events must be reasonable.

He noted that previous administrations, including that of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, organised the celebrations in different regions across the country.

While acknowledging that hosting the event outside Accra may involve additional logistical expenses, he maintained that the benefits of promoting local culture and ensuring nationwide participation often justify those costs.

However, he argued that if the celebration is held at the presidency, the expenditure should be significantly lower than what has been reported.
