Ghana police confused over NAM1 court day in Dubai; say it could be typing error

It has been established that the February 2, 2019 communicated by the police and the EOCO as the date on which Nana Appiah, also called NAM1, would be facing the courts in Dubai remains questionable.

A joint statement by the security agencies who are investigating the embattled CEO, upon the government delegation from Dubai Friday, said the he would face his first court session on February 2.

"It is the understanding of the Ghanaian delegation that Mr. Mensah faces misdemeanor charges in the UAE and will be made available to Ghana upon the final determination of his current case in the UAE. His case is next due for court on February 2,2019,” a part of the statement read.

However, checks by YEN.com.gh, as indicated in an earlier report have it that the courts do not sit on Saturdays.

This has left a section of Ghanaians in confusion and till now, nobody could tell how far the government of Ghana had gone with the case after earlier claims that a delegation had gone to Dubai to bring NAM1 home to face the laws.

But clarifying the matter, the director of public affairs of the Ghana Police Service, ACP David Eklu, said the February 2, 2019 date could be a typing error.

He added that it could also be that there may be a special arrangement where the court will sit on Saturday over the matter.

“We understand February 2 is a weekend….I am not too sure about the situation in Dubai. In certain cases the court may hold a sitting on weekend. But that does not negate the fact that he will be going to court in February,” ACP Eklu said.

“In typing on the calendar you can even get the date wrong. You might think that Friday is February 2. So to me it is not a significant thing. It can be typo error, it can be an error, and it can be true that the court have an arrangement to sit on Saturday,” he added.

NAM1 was declared wanted by INTERPOL after being charged with defrauding under false pretenses.

This follows his inability to pay back money owed fans after the BoG and SEC shut down his company.

Since then, there has been chaos and confusion as the customers have embarked on many demonstrations to have their monies paid but to no avail.
