A former Member of Parliament (MP) for the Convention People’s Party (CPP), under former President Kwame Nkrumah's regime, Lucy Animwaa Anin, has expressed her disgust at the current state of Ghana despite our 57th year as a Republican state.
In an interview with Kwame Tutu on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, the former legislator said, we have gone back to the era of the stone age, despite the efforts of former leader, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. Dr. Nkrumah she said, understood politics and because of his vision, he adopted measures to make the country prosperous but his plans were cut shot after the coup.
She said, because of Nkrumah’s vision, he formed Ghana Young Pioneers. A solid foundation was laid for the country. That is why he formed Young Pioneers, everything was in control until the coup.
Nkrumah studied politics and understood politics. He knew what he was about and documented everything.’’ Madam Lucy Animwaa Anin added, the former leader directed that it should be made compulsory for all Youth Organisations throughout Ghana to participate fully in the Leadership Courses and other training schemes organised by the Young Pioneer and that yielded positive results because, the youth were thought the sense of patriotism, nationalism, and discipline.
Nkrumah she stressed, equipped Ghanaians during his era because he wanted us to be self-dependent.
Assessing whether Ghana has benefited from becoming a republic, she said, the efforts and fight of the founder has gone in vain.
State assets have been sold by successive governments with the long term plan of Nkrumah abandoned and because of that, we have retrogressed instead of moving forward.
Gaining a Republican status as a country 57 years ago, will be beneficial if we only do the right thing, she stated.
She cited some policy direction of the Nkrumah’s era including the State Housing projects meant to afford every Ghanaian the opportunity to own affordable homes-which has been abandoned as unfortunate.
She opined, we need to continue with the vision of the late Nkrumah if we want to develop.
