Ghana to monitor borders with drones

The Member of Parliament for Ablekuma South, Fritz Baffour, has revealed that government has acquired a new technology to effectively monitor the country’s various entry points.

According to Hon. Baffour, Ghana would soon use drones to monitor its borders to track people entering the country.

Hon. Baffour who is also a member of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Defense and Interior, told Fiifi Banson on Kasapa FM Thursday that the new technology has been necessary considering that Ghana is surrounded by countries that have in one way or the other experienced civil war.

“We’ve got new technology like drones and other equipment for monitoring entry into the country which was actually brought to the fore when we had the ebola crisis and we had to strengthen our borders so that we wouldn’t get the epidemic in Ghana. We realized that our borders are porous and we had to do something about it”, he said.

The decision to monitor the country’s borders has become necessary after several arms and ammunitions were recently smuggled into the country from other West African countries.

Effectively monitoring the country’s entry points has also become useful as the oil producing West African nation heads into a crucial election in November this year.
