Political Science lecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr Joshua Jebuntie Zaato, has lauded former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, stating that he has demonstrated the competence and experience needed to lead Ghana safely as president.
Speaking on The Key Points on TV3 on Saturday, October 4, Dr Zaato asserted that among all potential presidential contenders from both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Bawumia stands out as the most qualified to take over leadership after President John Dramani Mahama.
“Ghana will be in safe hands if the country is handed to him. No other person in the NDC apart from President Mahama can be compared to Bawumia. No one in the NDC comes close to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as far as the 2028 election is concerned. He has the experience and competency to win the next election,” he stated.
Dr Zaato added confidently, “I can say without any equivocation that the next president of Ghana will be Bawumia.”
His remarks come in the wake of a recent Global Info Analytics survey, which revealed that 57 percent of Ghanaians prefer Dr Bawumia to lead the NPP into the next general election.
The poll indicates that the former Vice President enjoys strong nationwide support, reflecting broad appeal among ordinary voters.
However, the same survey also showed that Dr Bawumia’s performance among NPP delegates has slightly weakened in recent weeks, suggesting shifting internal party dynamics ahead of the January 2026 primaries.
