Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has said that the John Dramani Mahama- led National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration is the wrong government for the country.

He observed that Ghanaians currently are yearning for an NPP government, the government under which the late Alhaji Aliu Mahama served as Vice President.

The Mahama government has come under a barrage of criticism over allegations of corruption, mismanagement and lack of ideological clarity.

Even Alban Sumana Bagbin, Member of Parliament for Nadowli-Keleo, described as one of the government’s three wise men, recently lamented the President was inaccessible claiming the he was “deeply worried” about how the country was being governed.

He further claimed he had, for far too long, “complained in silence” about the raging corruption which was eating deep into the fabric of the society and could no longer look on for the country to end up in the abyss.

Mr Bagbin accused President Mahama of surrounding himself with family and friends.

Prior to this, Gilbert Abeiku Santana Aggrey, an ardent supporter of President Mahama in the 2012 elections and host of late afternoon show “Ekwanso Dwodwoo” on Okay FM, an Accra based radio station, had taken a swipe at the President’s kitchen cabinet, describing them as “vampires, hypocrites and parasites”, responsible for the NDC government’s loss of focus, highlighting the high cost of living and the apparent state of confusion in government’s priorities.

But Former President Kufuor, in an address at a memorial lecture and launch of the Aliu Mahama Foundation (AMF) as part of activities to mark the first anniversary of the passing of his former Veep, was emphatic that the country was on the path to nowhere under the current government.

“On this occasion of one year anniversary since his demise, I want to assure him that Ghanaians are yearning for the government of which he was an integral part”.

He said the late Aliu Mahama fitted as a partner and advisor to him while in office, insisting attributes of entrepreneurship coupled with his humility that Aliu exhibited made his decision to select him (Aliu) a very easy undertaking.

Former President Kufuor adds: “He fitted the office, he did not disappoint me, he surely made me proud of my selecting him as my running mate… His Excellency Aliu Mahama served his country very well and will always be remembered for his advocacy and campaign for greater discipline in the Ghanaian society”.

Nothing that the late Aliu Mahama was a major backbone of the NPP in the Northern Region of Ghana, he appealed to the Princes’ caught up in the Dagbon feud to “reconcile in the name of God and the love of Ghana”.
