Asenso-Boakye launched the initiatives in Accra
There is a new way that the public can get actively involved in addressing issues related to roads in the country.
This is after the Minister of Roads and Highways, Francis Asenso-Boakye, launched a new government maintenance mobile app called ‘Maintain My Road.’
As part of the launch, the minister also launched a call center as part of an “Enhanced Maintenance Programme.’
Announcing this via a post on his social media handles, Asenso-Boakye said this initiative is an add-on to projects undertaken by the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government since 2017.
“This morning, I launched a maintenance Mobile App, dubbed ‘Maintain My Road’, and a Call Centre as part of an ‘Enhanced Maintenance Programme’ of the Ministry of Roads and Highways aimed at involving the public in addressing potholes and other road defect issues on our road network.
“Since 2017, the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration has constructed six (6) new interchanges, 35 bridges, and 12,830.33 km of roads as against the 4,636km by the previous administration. Successive governments have made significant progress in road infrastructure development essential for socio-economic development. However, there remains a gap in the routine maintenance of these roads, which has led to issues such as potholes, road defects, limited rural access, accidents, and urban congestion,” he wrote.
Francis Asenso-Boakye also added that these interventions by the government are to ensure timely and effective actions on such projects.
“To tackle these challenges, the Ministry has introduced these innovative solutions, including the Call Centre and Mobile App, to ensure timely and effective public reporting and maintenance. These tools will enhance road conditions, address public concerns, and boost community involvement in improving Ghana's road infrastructure,” he added.
