Govt Has Abandoned IFC Loan - Kweku Baako

Fri, 22 Nov 2002 Source: JoyOnline

Government is yet to make an official statement as to whether or not it would pursue the controversial loan being facilitated by the International Finance Consortium (IFC). President Kufuor and his Finance Minister have been meeting over the matter, the latest being today. But there is no word on what government has decided.

Despite the seeming indecision on government?s part, the Managing Editor of the Crusading Guide newspaper, Kweku Baako Jnr is emphatic that the deal has been called off. Mr Baako who has been investigating the issue told JOY FM that it is now certain that the loan will remain a mirage.

According to him he has evidence to prove his allegation. He however noted that government has not signed the sovereign guarantee yet and so the country has nothing to lose by not assessing the loan. Mr Baako described media reports that a sovereign guarantee has been signed as uninformed and speculative.

He however commended the media for their criticism, which he says, put government on the alert to investigate the IFC further and arrive at the latest decision of not assessing the loan.

Mr Baako was optimistic that the loan has been cancelled saying that ?let government come out with its decision but I Kweku Baako say they?ve abandoned the project?.
