Brong Ahafo Dec 5, GNA - Mr Kwadwo Mpiani, Chief of Staff, on Tuesday pledged the support of the Government to all Regional Planning Committees towards the organization of a successful and memorable Golden Jubilee Anniversary celebration.
He said although an amount had been allocated for the celebration, it was still necessary for some Ministries notably, the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports and the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Environment to allocate part of their budget for the construction of jubilee schools in the country. Mr Mpiani said this at the second meeting of Regional Ministers and the Chief Executive of the Ghana @ 50 on preparations being made towards the celebrations next year.
Speaking to the GNA in an interview, the Chief Executive of Ghana @ 50 Secretariat, Dr Charles Wereko Brobbey said major and critical decisions such as ensuring the refurbishment and preparation of parade grounds, jubilee rest houses, kindergartens and visiting centres had been taken.
Dr Wereko Brobbey said jubilee schools were expected to be completed between July and August next year.
He dismissed views held by a section of the Ghanaian community that the 20 million dollars monetary commitment for the celebration was a waste and said, "it is the business of government to execute projects and control affairs in the best interest of the nation.' The Chief Executive said the projects were to serve as legacies for posterity.
Mr Ignatius Baffuor-Awuah, Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, said a proposed regional financial outlay of more than 13 billion cedis had been submitted to the National Secretariat for consideration and appealed to the Secretariat to start releasing funds for the implementation of the projects.
Mr Baffuor-Awuah on behalf of the Regional Ministers gave the assurance that they would ensure the successful implementation of the projects. 05 Dec.06
