The New Patriotic Party’s Member of Parliament and parliamentary candidate for the Ayawaso Central Constituency, Henry Quartey, says he fears for his life as he receives death threats.

Addressing the Nima Divisional Election Security Task Force on Tuesday, November 22 after its visit to the NPP, National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the People’s National Convention (PNC) to know their concerns ahead of the elections, Mr. Quartey said he has gathered intelligence some people plan killing him. “There is a strong intelligence that I have picked."

They are looking for channels to attack me seriously before the elections.

We don’t want a JB situation here [referring to the death of Abuakwa North MP, JB Dankwa Adu]. “I have been asked to send a letter to the regional command which I have done… I will need police protection in my home and in my official duties,” he said. Mr. Quartey also accused the NDC of training some macho men to cause mayhem on December 7.

Reacting to the allegations, however, NDC’s parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso Central, William Affum Ani-Agyei, said Henry Quartey’s death threats could possibly be coming from within the NPP.

“If honourable Henry Quartey claims he is receiving threats on his life, fine, that could be true. But that will not necessarily come from the NDC. That is why he is unable to say that the threats are coming from the NDC. “I think he hasn’t handled the NPPs very well.

So, if he is receiving some threats, there is that possibility that that threats are coming from within the NPP.” However, Nima Divisional Police Commander ACP Vance Gariba assured the two sides he will work to ensure nerves are calmed.

“I think we need to escalate the engagement by taking it to my regional police commander. We will urge him to invite the two parties and other prominent people within their own community to have some of the issues raised resolved.”
