The New Patriotic Party(NPP) Chairman for the Asante Akyem South constituency in the Ashanti region, Gilbert Adarkwa Yiadom has denied stealing the Electoral Commissions(EC) voters’ register for one of the polling areas, and has insisted this is merely a falsehood being perpetrated by folks in the governing NDC just to give him a bad name.

“The register contains just 22 voters; and it’s unthinkable that I will go to that extent of stealing such a document with such number of entries. Even if it contains 1000 voters, I have no business stealing such document that will eventually soil my reputation,” he told Kasapa 102.5 FM Tuesday.

Rumours were rife that the EC’s register for one of the polling areas[Muramura] in the Asante Akim South had been stolen during a meeting at the EC’s office recently.

The Director of Election Monitoring for the NDC in the area, Kwame Amponsah Effah was the one who wired the news on various social media platforms accusing his colleague in the opposition NPP, Adarkwa Yiadom of having a hand in the stealing of the register.

But Mr. Yiadom reacting to the issue on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM said he only gave the register to his chairman for the Muramura area to cross-check the list of voters, however it was unfortunate he mistakenly took it away after doing so.

“When the issue came up we were all stunned after thorough search at the EC’s office and still not finding the document. So I quickly had to call my chairman and ask him about it. He run a check on the few documents he was holding and found out that the Muramura register was inside his documents.

“I’m surprised Kwame Amponsah is accusing me wrongly that I intentionally stole the register and gave it to my chairman. And to be frank nobody pushed me to the wall before I called my chairman to find out from him whether that document was in his possession,” he said.

According to him, the missing register was delivered back to the EC’s office the same day after they noticed it was mistakenly taken away by the Chairman for Muramura electoral area.
