The Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has cautioned members of his party against pushing for positions in the next government with the thought that the outcome of the pending December 7 presidential elections is done and dusted.

Speaking at the outdooring of his running mate, Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), former President Mahama indicated that he currently has no list of appointees in the event the NDC wins the December 7 elections.

He added that persons who think that some positions in his government have been reserved for them might be very disappointed because he has not made considerations on appointments yet.

“Let me say that I don’t have any list and so for those of them who were referred to by the General Secretary as having chosen their positions, you may be very, very deeply disappointed,” he said to applause from the audience.

The former president made these remarks after the National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, who spoke before him at the event, indicated that members of the party were already peddling influence over positions.

Asiedu Nketiah cautioned the NDC against being complacent; stressing that there is still a lot of work to be done to dislodge the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) from political office.

“Because we’re convinced that we are there, a lot of people have begun taking positions and fighting over who will be what in the next government. Some people are not only fighting about the positions they will occupy, they are telling all others that they will be the kingmakers and they will be making appointments.

"If we’re not careful, this will dampen the enthusiasm and the spirit of our followers. I want to assure everybody that we’re not there yet,” the NDC national chairman said.

He added, "Don’t be fighting about positions, and don’t be talking about who will make appointments. Let’s all go for the hunting first and when we kill the game we can now argue about sharing of the meat".
