The Minister of Information, Mustapha Abdul Hamid on Saturday graduated with a doctorate in Religion and Human Values at University of Cape Coast (UCC).

In his address, Dr Hamid was grateful to Allah and to the staff and supervisors of UCC for their brilliant academic inputs in making him a shining example to many young people around Ghana from all backgrounds; saying empahtically that in his next life (if anything like that exists,) he will choose UCC again.
According to the Information Minister, University of Cape Coast has upped its reputation as one of the top Universities in the country and he was proud to be associated with the name UCC.
He added that people think it is hard to pursue Degree, MPhil and PhD at UCC, stating that, “many people asked me, are you doing PhD at UCC? Isn’t it difficult?” But he replied: “Even my next life I shall attend UCC,” he said.
In all 1,104 graduated to receive their respective degrees and postgraduate diplomas and certificates. This number is made up of 54 PhDs, 202 MPhil, 608 MCom /MBA, nine Master of Nursing (MN), 119 MEd/MSc, 60 MA and 48 PGDE/PGCE, MyNewsGH.com’s Asana Gordon reported.
The University also graduated nine Executive Masters in Hospitality Management and one Master of Human Resource Management.
Addressing the graduands, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Joseph Ghartey Ampiah said his institution has trained 2,394 higher education graduates which includes PhDs in various academic fields to take up their respective places for the socio-economic development of Ghana and beyond. He hinted that, the School of Graduate Studies has added 12 new demand-driven programmes, which according to him, has been approved by the Academic Board to its existing stock of 391 programmes.
The new programmes include MPhil/PhD Irrigation Technology, MPhil/PhD poor-harvest technology and MEd/MPhil/PhD in Quality Assurance in Tertiary Education, Educational Leadership as well as Med/MPhil/PhD in Economics of Education.
Others are MPhil in Information Technology, MSc Forensic Science, MPhil/PhD in Agricultural Mechanisation and Machinery Technology. These programmes according to the Vice Chancellor are yet to receive accreditation from the National Accreditation Board before being rolled out. He said the University enrollment of Graduate students stands at 4,591 representing 6% of total enrollment and believed his outfit to increase this percentage year-by-year.
