Businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome has stated that, he is ready to make payments of the judgment debt of GHC51.2 million after his petition to the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights in Arusha,Tanzania ruled against him.

According to him, even if it means he needed to go for a lone to settle, the debt, he will if the government will sit with him and agree on the terms of payment.

He said, “It will not be a difficult task for me…If I have to go for a loan fine. I am ready to sit with government for us to agree on how the money will be repaid”.

According to him, he has started paying part of the money to government therefore will find other means to settle the rest of the amount as a good citizen of Ghana.

“I am a good citizen and law abiding. I will make sure that whatever the African Court the government will comply and work with it”, Mr. Woyome added.

Mr. Woyome applied to the Continental Court arguing that his human rights were being trampled upon by Ghana in relation to the case in which he sued Ghana for abrogating a financial engineering services contract and was paid GH¢51.2million.

The Court presided over by Honourable Lady Justice Tujlani Rose Chizumil, last Friday, 28 June 2019 ruled that “The court finds that the applicant’s rights to nondiscrimination, his right to equality before the law and to equal protection of law as guaranteed under Articles 2 and 3 of the Charter were not violated by the respondent.

"The court notes that since no violation has been established, the issue of reparation does not arise. Consequently, the applicant’s prayers for reparation is dismissed”, Justice Chizumil added.
