Dr. Ekua Amoakoh is a member of the communications team of the NPP
A member of the communications team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Ekua Amoakoh, has expressed concerns about the actions of some National Democratic Congress (NDC) members, following their decisive victory in the December 7 presidential election.
Speaking on Channel One TV on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, she pointed out that the NDC's victory seems to be clouding their judgments, distorting the core principles of democracy.
"The NPP is the party that came about by truly democratic means. There was a time when we did not even have representation in Parliament, yet we continued to fulfill our duties as the opposition party.
"I don't know; I think the victory of the NDC is getting to their head so much that they are forgetting the rules of engagement. In a democracy, you can’t tell us to keep quiet or accuse us of being a nuisance," she stated.
Dr. Amoah further reiterated the NPP's commitment to being a constructive opposition party.
"We are committed and determined to form a very constructive opposition party that will look out for the interests of the people of Ghana. That way, when we are in a position to form the government again, we can implement the policies — the beautiful policies — that we have outlined for the country’s development," she noted.
Her comments follow remarks made by the Majority Leader in Parliament on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, who urged the Minority to exercise restraint and allow President John Dramani Mahama’s newly sworn-in government the peace and space to govern effectively.
Addressing a press conference in Parliament on January 21, 2025, Dr. Forson urged the opposition to focus on constructive engagements, rather than premature criticisms.
“The Mahama administration is barely two weeks old, yet it has already been inundated with unwarranted attacks from the Minority. I appeal to our colleagues on the other side to grant the government the necessary breathing space to steer the affairs of this country. Let us work together to build a better Ghana,” she stated.
