Baba Rahman has revealed why he turned down Ghana's latest call-up
Fit-again Schalke 04 defender Baba Rahman has shed light on his absence from Ghana's set-up for the recent Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Kenya.
Having returned to action after over a year in the treatment room, the left-back had been expected to make a comeback to the Black Stars for the September 8 fixture.
He picked up the injury at the Afcon in January 2017, and completed his comeback in May this year when he came on as a second half substitute in Schalke's final league game of last season.
"I did not feel 100 per cent fit in the summer and I did not want to risk anything," Baba told Goal.
"I just wanted to give myself enough time to get fully fit again.
"Additionally, there were some problems between the Ghanaian FA and the government which have now been solved.
"When I'm 100% ready, I want to play for Ghana again."
Originally scheduled to return to action after seven months on the sidelines, a series of complications held up Baba's return until May.
It is unclear if the full-back would be available for Ghana's double-header against Sierra Leone in the Afcon qualifying next month.
He is with Schalke on loan from English giants Chelsea.
