The presidential candidate of the Ghana Union Movement, Christian Kwabena Andrews, has outlined his ideas and strategies for addressing and combating illegal mining under his administration.

Speaking on JoyNews, the politician, who is also a man of God, stated that his next government would sign a pact with miners and would not permit any politician or foreigner to mine in the country if given the mandate.

He explained that he would meet with the miners to agree on a profit-sharing arrangement, where half of the profits would go to the government, and the other half would be retained by the miners.

Additionally, any agreements already signed between the government and the miners would be revised to facilitate the reclamation of lands and forest reserves.

“Within 100 days, we are going to sit down with those in the oil fields and miners. If they signed a 50-year agreement with the government, we will cut it down to 20 years. If the percentage given to Ghanaians is 10%, we will revise it and make it 50-50.”

Osofo Kyiri Abosom, as he is affectionately known, threatened to take action against any miner who refused to agree to the profit-sharing deal, stating he would send Nima boys to deal with them.

“I will send Nima boys and northerners to go beat them up if they refuse to accept the deal. They should leave the country because we don’t need them here,” he warned.

Christian Kwabena Andrews further accused President Akufo-Addo of lacking the necessary ideas to address the issue of galamsey.
