Having had several constant calls for his dismissal following the alarming spate of armed robberies and the concerns of insecurity raised in recent times, this may probably come to Inspector General of Police, David Asante Apeatu as a relief; having someone vouch for him.

US Ambassador to Ghana, Robert P. Jackson believes the Mr. Apeatu has been doing a yoeman’s job in his capacity as the IGP since his appointment by President Akufo-Addo.

In his words; “Inspector General Apeatu has been a breath of fresh air, he has a vision for the police. During his entire tenure, he’s been working to modernize the police, he’s made series of personnel changes so that he gets the right people he thinks in the right positions to have the most effective force”.

Mr. Jackson who admitted he has ‘great respect’ for the IGP expressed confidence in his ability to put in effective strategies and work efficiently to solve the country’s insecurity issues.

“I have great respect for him, if after all the investments are made and the reorganization we still are not getting results then I think he’s going to have to ask himself about his future but I have confidence in him”, he noted.

Quizzed by Kwabena Kyenkyenhene Boateng how much time for him is realistic to evaluate Mr. Apeatu’s work effectively, his response was ‘a year is more realistic’.

Minority Members in parliament called for the ‘head’ of IGP David Asante Apeatu following the wave of robbery attacks sweeping through the capital, Accra.

Deputy Minority Chief Whip, Ahmed Ibrahim, has suggested that the IGP is to blame for the seeming confidence of the robbers, and the lawlessness that seems to be gripping the country.

Many others including acting General Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party and Member of Parliament for Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency in the Western Region, George Mireku Duker have however described the calls as ‘unnecessary’ and ‘wrong’.
