The Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has said that there is no need for Ghanaians to give the New Patriotic Party's Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia a chance to continue to rule of the NPP because of their failure.
Speaking during a recent durbar at Nyankontere in the Bono East Region, he criticised Dr. Bawumia, stating, "We gave the steer to you, but you crashed it, So, why do you want us to give the steer to you again? The person in the bus who has crashed the bus is asking Ghanaians to give him the steer; how is that possible?"
The former president contrasted his experience, noting that while Dr. Bawumia has described him as a second-hand president, he has more experience in governance.
"We need to look for a new driver, to steer us in a right direction. The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party says he would be a tear-rubber president while I would be a second-hand president. I have a farm in the northern part of the country. I have two tractors, one is a Ford model that is automatic, and the other is manual but old.
"The old one is more efficient that the new one. So, if they say I am a second-hand president, it is fine. I have experience. The NDC government has ruled this country before. So, I have a wealth of experience when it comes to governance issues," he noted.
Speaking during a stakeholder engagement meeting at Kasoa on September 3, 2024, Dr. Bawumia stated that Ghana will get a new leadership if he wins the 2024 general elections.
He stated that a vote for him represents fresh ideas as compared to former President John Dramani Mahama, who he described as a spent force.
