Italy donates 50 more buses for Mass Transport

Accra, Jan.22 GNA- The Province of Treviso in Italy has donated 50 buses to augment the fleet of Ghana's Mass Transportation System that currently stands at 197.
Dr Richard Anane, Minister of Roads, Highways and Transport, who announced this during an interaction with a three-member delegation from the Province said 12 out of the 50 buses are already in Ghana awaiting clearance at the Tema Harbour.
He said officials of the Province, who have supported the Mass Transport System with spare parts and other technical support have accepted a proposal for the establishment of a local Training Institute for Mechanics.
He lauded the contribution of Dr Luca Zaia, President of the Province and Leader of the delegation for helping to deepen bilateral relations.
Dr Anane referred to other areas of co-operation between the Province and Ghana in the Health and other sectors of the economy. Dr Zaia, whose speech was interpreted by Dr Marcello Moro, Consul of Ghana in Italy, said, the donation was the beginning of things to happen. He said the support of Treviso to Ghana was the result of 50 years of strenuous efforts in the business sector.
Dr Zaia said Treviso, a Province with a population of one million have a factory for every eight inhabitants and generate a total export equal to the income of a Sovereign State like Greece.
He described the Mass Transportation System in Ghana as unique, adding that the success of the Project should correspond to the improvement of the welfare of Ghanaians.
Dr Zaia expressed the need for officials of the Province to strategize with the Ghanaian government to improve on the technical competence of local mechanics and explore opportunities in the area of Information Technology.
