Former Black Stars defender Jonathan Mensah has officially left New England Revolution after spending just a year with the American club.
After departing San Jose Earthquakes in 2023, the center-back found a new home with New England Revolution. However, injuries hampered the 34-year-old’s form, limiting him to just eight appearances for the club.
A statement by the club revealed that, although the Ghanaian wanted to stay, the option to extend his contract for another year was declined. He was included in the list of players whose contracts were not renewed.
Mensah was listed alongside defender Xavier Arreaga and midfielders Joshua Bolma, Dylan Borrero, Nacho Gil, and Tommy McNamara. He could still join another MLS club as he heads into his ninth year in the league.
An U20 World Cup winner in 2009, Mensah featured in six Africa Cup of Nations tournaments with Ghana (2010, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2017, and 2019) and also represented Ghana at two World Cup tournaments (2010 and 2014).
