A Multimedia Journalist with Accra-based Joy FM in the Ashanti Region, Nurudeen Mohammed was on Monday afternoon attacked by some irate youth at Ahwiaa in the Kwabre East Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

The journalist who had gone to the area to cover renewed clashes between Zongo Youth and indigenes had his Canon 60D camera completely destroyed.

According to him, his assailant from nowhere came from behind, pulled his monopod and in an attempt to resist, he was subjected to some hefty knocks in the presence of the police which led to him suffering a cut on his forehead.

“One guy from Ahwiaa Zango came from nowhere behind me, pulled my monopod in the presence of the police and unfortunately, my camera got destroyed. The police could have shot him but Godwin Ahianyo and his men acted professionally.

How we chased the guy and couldn’t trace him … Well, he was only lucky but we will surely find him… Yes, he will surely find”, he posted on his Facebook page.

Meanwhile, 10 persons have been arrested in connection with the latest violence that erupted on Monday afternoon.

District Chief Executive (DCE) of the area, Nana Osei Bonsu confirmed the latest incident on Kumasi-based Otec FM according to MyNewsGh.com reporter Kwabena Danso-Dapaah

“I can confirm one person is dead as a result and others who were injured are responding to treatment”, he spoke on the station’s afternoon political talk show “Dwabrem” hosted by Nana Agyeman.

“We need police and military intervention”, indicating the District Security Committee (DISEC) will meet to impose curfew in order to calm the escalating tension in the area.

This is about the second time barely a month in the same district violent clashes have been recorded among various youth groups.
