The criminal trial involving New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, and two others has officially come to a close, with the court expected to deliver its judgment on July 3, 2026.

The development was disclosed by Deputy Attorney General Dr Justice Srem-Sai in a Facebook post on Wednesday, June 3, following proceedings in court.

According to him, the defence concluded its case after calling its final witness.

"The accused persons in the case — The Republic v Bernard Antwi-Boasiako & 2 Others — called their fifth and final witness today," he wrote.

Dr Justice Srem-Sai further indicated that the witness completed his testimony and was subsequently discharged by the court, bringing months of legal proceedings to an end.

"The witness was discharged from the witness box a while ago. That brought the entire trial to an end," he stated.

With both the prosecution and defence having closed their cases, attention now turns to the final verdict.

"The judge has scheduled July 3 for judgment," Justice Srem-Sai added.

The upcoming ruling is expected to attract significant public and political interest, given Chairman Wontumi's prominence within the NPP and Ghana's political landscape.
