The Controversy that characterized the administration of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly KMA over the years seems to have reared its ugly head once again with a directive asking Hon. Kofi Jumah to continue acting as the Chief Executive of the assembly till a new one is appointed by the president.
The directive which was given by the President through the chief of staff Mr. Kwadwo Mpianim on the 10th of last month directing all Chief executives of metropolitan and municipal assemblies to continue act at their respective areas until further notice. On Daybreak Kapital this morning, the Acting Chief Executive, Mr. Kofi Jumah, and the presiding Member and also assemblyman for Suame electoral area, Nana Kofi Senya, locked horns on the directive. While the presiding member wanted to know if Kofi Jumah had sought permission from parliament, he also maintained that he is acting according to the directive
The two also argued extensively on each ones performance over the years while leveling accusations and counter accusations against one another.
The hot exchange may have confirmed the widely held perception that the two gentlemen have not been on good terms. The long standing row between the two have sharply divided the assembly with the Senya group being labeled as KMA rebels.
Hon. Senya maintained that majority of assembly members do not want the MCE back at the assembly. According to him, Kofi Jumah messed up at the assembly during his term of office accusing him of stealing office computers, a landcruiser which belongs to the assembly and unilaterally awarding contracts.
On his part, Kofi Jumah accused Senya and his group of corruption which according to him has been stopped by his administration thereby incurring their displeasure.
Hon. Kofi Jumah indicated that he is still and will continue to be at post until the president nominates a new Chief executive.
