Kumasi, May 9, GNA - Mr Maxwell Kofi Jumah, Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, has appealed to the unemployed and the youth in the metropolis to take advantage of the grasscutter and snail-rearing training programmes being conducted by the assembly to generate income for their livelihood.
Mr Jumah gave the advice at the presentation of 24 grasscutter cages to 24 farmers who had been trained in grasscutter-rearing and production in Kumasi at the weekend.
The training, which was conducted by the Community Biodiversity Utilisation Development (CBUD) in collaboration with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA), was financed by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA).
Mr Jumah said the government was committed to livestock development in the country and urged the beneficiaries to take advantage of the numerous opportunities being created by the government to improve their lots.
Mr George Badu Yeboah, Metro Director of MOFA, said Kumasi had been selected to benefit from the livestock development project, which was being piloted in the country.
He said a training workshop on sheep, cattle and pig breeding as well as dairy production had been organised for some selected breeders in the metropolis to enable them participate in the project. He said vegetable and citrus producers in the metropolis were also being assisted to expand their farms.
Mr Yeboah announced that about 1,400 people had been trained in grasscutter rearing and 800 also trained in snail farming.
