KNUST Alumni pledge support to Committee investigating students' rioting

The alumni of University Hall, Katanga and Unity Halls of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) have pledged their unflinching support to the committee set up to probe the circumstances that led to students’ riots in October 2018.

"We stand ready to provide any and all support the committee may need from KATANGA Alumni", Alumni president, Charles Dontoh signed in a release available to this reporter, Kwabena Danso-Dapaah.

The Vice Chancellor of KNUST, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has appointed a retired Supreme Court judge, Her Ladyship Justice Rose Owusu to chair a three member committee to probe the October 2018 riot by some students

"The Alumni whole-heartedly welcome this announcement and sincerely thank Otumfuo Osei Tutu for following through on his promise and for his leadership on this matter", Charles Dontoh said.

"We are hopeful that this committee of accomplished professionals will prescribe effective recommendations to forestall future instances related to issues that contributed to the unfortunate incidents"

The Asante monarch, who doubles as the Chancellor of the University, announced the development at KNUST’s Special congregation for postgraduate students

“Help us to chart a course into a future that will not make us repeat the embarrassing episode.” Otumfour Osei Tutu told the Committee members.



He assured the committee will be independent and will be given freedom to do their work without any interference whatsoever.

The Asantehene therefore admonished the Vice Chancellor of KNUST, Prof. Kwasi Obiri-Danso not to take unilateral decisions on matters concerning the university but should consult members of convocation at all times.
