Energy Minister, John Peter Amewu has directed PDS to obey all existing agreements with Krobo people on the overbilling impasse while investigations are conducted into the billing anomaly and the subsequent clashes.
John Peter Amewu did not mince words in describing the overbilling issue in the Krobo area as complete nonsense which will not be entertained.
“I support the people of Kroboland for demanding their rights; I support you hundred percent because I’ll not tolerate such nonsense. I have seen it that the bill is not working then you give me money to pay, I have every right to query the authorities that are responsible,” he said.
Mr. Amewu said this when he paid a courtesy call on Konor of Manya Krobo, Nene Sakitey II at his palace Monday evening as part of his visit to the troubled Odumase Krobo area to order PDS restore power to the people.
He reiterated that PDS was brought in to correct lapses and losses in the Power distribution sector therefore if it is unable to execute that it has no basis to operate in the country.
The Konor of Manya Krobo, Nene Sakitey said the Traditional Council is impressing on residents who have errors in their billing to send their bills to PDS for it to be corrected. He said the Traditional Council is not going to rest until the problem is resolved.
At a visit to the bereaved family of the 24-year-old gunned down by Police to commiserate with them, the Minister said the Ministry supports the action of residents of Krobo for demanding their right intended to query PDS on overbilling. He assured the family that a committee will be instituted to investigate the incident to bring the perpetrators to book.
The Energy Minister had earlier visited the Chief of Kpongunor, Nene Sasraku after joining PDS official to restore power to the community.
The Chief said failure by PDS to obey a roadmap on the overbilling matter led to the clashes. He denied claims that Krobos want to enjoy free electricity.
The Energy Minister announced that a Committee will be constituted to investigate the incident for justice to be served. He said the President directed PDS to restore power to the area.
The Minister pledged a total of 1000 streetlights to be fixed in the municipality to illuminate the area.
