Former President John Kufuor sacked a minister in his administration for supporting Nana Akufo-Addo against Alan Kyerematen in the 2007 presidential primaries of the NPP, pollster Ben Ephson has alleged.

According to the Editor of the Dispatch newspaper, the former president was livid that the unnamed minister stuck his neck out for Akufo-Addo when he knew he (Kufuor) was not in favour of an Akufo-Addo ticket.

“In the course of President Kufuor’s eight year term, a lot of little things happened which pointed out that people who had worked with Nana Addo were being quietly targeted.

“…In the run up to the 2007 flagbearership race, there was a team which traveled across the country and one minister was identified as actively supporting Nana Akufo-Addo against President Kufuor’s candidate Alan Kyerematen and Kufuor called that minister into the office and told him : “I hear you are supporting Nana Akufo-Addo against Alan Kyerematen; I will sack you and when Nana Addo becomes president, he makes you a minister” and the minister was sacked,” Ephson stated on Ephson's File last week Friday.

He said what appears to be happening in the party now are remnants of decisions and actions which were taken in the past by leading members of the Danqua-Busia-Dombo tradition.

The NPP is in a state of confusion as seven regional branches have called for the resignation of its national chairman Paul Afoko and general secretary Kwabena Agyepong.

The two executives are being accused of masterminding the killing of the party’s Upper East regional chairman Adams Mahama and causing division in the party.
