General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah has stated that remarks made by former President John Agyekum Kufuor regarding President John Dramani Mahama's administration and leadership at the NPP’s Extraordinary Conference were a means of escaping suspension by the opposition party.

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor says he envisions the New Patriotic Party unseating the governing National Democratic Congress in next year’s general election.

According to him, Ghanaians want a change in government because the current NDC administration under John Dramani Mahama is making life difficult for the Ghanaian.

“I see change coming and the change can happen through only one party and that is the NPP,” he told over 6,500 party delegates and supporters at the Sunyani Coronation Park.

“The nation is seeking change because of the affliction of bad governance, poor economy and lack of direction that we suffer in the country. The youth of the country cannot see the light at the tunnel so they say we want change,” he told delegates at the special delegates’ conference, Saturday.

He said an NPP victory is inevitable because, “everywhere people are suffering, including NDC people,” stressing the need for the party to say united ahead of polls in 2016.

“Nana Akufo Addo must win the Presidency for us next Year. To win he must get 50% plus one and we must give him that,” the ex-President told delegates.

Commenting on the ex-president's remarks on Okay Fm’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show, the NDC Chief Scribe sardonically stated former President Kufuor feared being suspended hence the latter's call that "change can happen through only one party and that is the NPP".

“Kufuor spoke against Mahama’s administration to escape suspension. Fear has gripped Kufuor and he spoke under duress because all those associated with him have been suspended,” Asiedu Nketia said.
