Spokesperson of the Ghana Football Association, Ibrahim Saani Daara, has clarified that contrary to earlier reports that exaggerated the amount of compensation due Ex-Black Stars coach, Coach Kwasi Appiah is entitled to only a total of three months salary as compensation per the Contract signed in July.
Responding to issues surrounding the termination of the contract of James Kwasi Appiah yesterday, Ibrahim Saani Daara stated that media reports claiming that Coach Kwasi Appiah was entitled to $800,000 or $900,000 was wrong and that per the contract, the Coach was due a three-month salary in lieu of notice as compensation for the termination.
“The amount you’ve heard in the media have been overly blown out of proportion, per the contract that we have signed with him, in lieu of notice, we have to pay him for 3 months. So that will not amount to the 800,000 or 900,000 you have heard. For the three months salary, we expect it to be between $100,000 and $150,000 but it will be subject to what our lawyers agree on, but the $800,000 is completely false,” he told Joy FMs Samson Lardi Ayenini.
The FA Spokesperson also indicated that the parting terms including the specific amount to be paid as compensation will be concluded after the GFA legal team meets with the legal team of the Coach to settle the issues next week, according to the Contract that exists between the two parties.
The GFA on Friday issued a statement announcing that the body had agreed mutually to part ways.
“The Ghana Football Association (GFA) and Black Stars coach James Kwesi Appiah have agreed to mutually part ways. The two parties met on Friday morning to reach the agreement on the departure of Mr. Appiah,” the statement said.
Since the statement was issued and even prior to its issuance, there had been various reports carried widely on various media platforms saying that the former Black Stars Coach was entitled to compensation in the sum of $876,000.
These reports, however, failed to reveal the source of the information or the particular clauses in the contract which suggests entitles the Coach to the sum quoted.
