The Bank of Ghana (BoG) is holding a press briefing following the conclusion of the 131st meeting of its Monetary Policy Committee (MPC), with attention focused on inflation trends, liquidity conditions, and global economic developments.

The Governor of the Central Bank and Chairman of the MPC, Dr Johnson Pandit Asiama, is expected to announce the Committee’s latest policy rate decision.

The policy rate is the benchmark interest rate set by the central bank to influence borrowing costs and overall economic activity.

The MPC’s 131st meeting, which began on Monday, July 20, 2026, reviewed key economic indicators to guide the Bank’s monetary policy direction.

Opening the meeting, Dr Asiama said the Committee would assess whether the recent rise in inflation reflects a temporary adjustment or signals a more sustained shift in the economic outlook.

Headline inflation increased for three consecutive months, rising from 3.2% in March to 5.3% in June, largely driven by increases in transport and haulage costs.

At its previous meeting, the MPC maintained the Monetary Policy Rate at 14% and replaced the dynamic Cash Reserve Ratio framework with a uniform 20% requirement to be held in domestic currency.

Dr Asiama said the Committee would evaluate the impact of these measures on liquidity conditions, monetary policy transmission, and broader economic performance.
