LMVC to sue police over brutalities

Leaders of the pressure group, Let My Vote Count Alliance (LMVC) are preparing to sue the Police Service for allegedly brutalizing some members of the group during a street protest in Accra.

The action comes hours after the police dropped charges against thirteen leaders of the group who were to be put before court today.

The police had claimed the thirteen leaders played some roles during a violent clash between the police and demonstrators during a protest for a new Voters register.

One of the leaders of the group, Ibrahim Adjei, told Starr News their lawyers are in the process of filing a suit at the court over the conduct of police officers during the violent demonstration.

"Presently our lawyers are preparing the necessary paperwork to file a suit against the Police. You cannot be horse-whipped and sit down quietly because you are not fighting for yourself, you are fighting for all other Ghanaians in order to make sure that when we take a class action and take the Police to court for the brutalities that they meted out to we Ghanaians, there could be some progress.

“So yes! We are taking the Police to court over the brutalities because it will be a disservice not only to our rights, but it will also give a green light to every other person who will want to demonstrate for their rights,” Adjei stated
