Minister-Designate for the newly created Ahafo Region, Benjamin Yeboah Sekyere has asked Ghanaians to take advantage of opportunities provided by government to develop themselves internally rather than travel abroad to get exploited and abused in their quest for greener pastures.

Making his case while appearing Parliament before the appointment committee on Monday, he established that government in fulfilling its mandate to Ghanaian citizens has put a number of measures in place to help the youth succeed, thus they should take advantage of such opportunities and create new ones.

Touching further on the issue of the continuous migration by the youth and its negative effect on the country’s human resource, Mr Sekyere added, the poverty level in Ghana recently has created the impression that the only way to be successful is to travel overseas.

‘’We are living in a country where travelling is deemed a blessing from God and for that matter it would be very difficult to stop anyone from travelling. Employment and jobs creation, education and a lot of sensitization would make some of our youth stay and work here. Most of them decide not to go back there when they finally return to Ghana but because there is no job here, they end up going back’’.

While acknowledging the need to do more to absorb the large number of unemployed youth, he maintained that the only way to curb the menace is to create more jobs in both the formal and informal sectors adding that such measures when considered, would address the long-standing national problem (unemployment).

Mr Benjamin Yeboah Sekyere was vetted with three others; Yaw Afful, Deputy Minister for Aviation, Siaka Stevens, Deputy Minister-designate for the Bono region and Salifu Adam Braimah, Minister-Designate for the Savannah Region

If confirmed Mr Benjamin Yeboah Sekyere will be the first Minister for the newly created Ahafo Region.
