Lifting of ban on me an act of God – Sosu

Human rights lawyer, Francis-Xavier Sosu, has said the lifting of the ban placed on him by the General Legal Council (GLC) was an act of God.

Mr Sosu explained that after the ban was placed on him, he raised seven prayer alters to petition God over the matter.

The lawyer was handed a three-year ban by the GLC after the council found him guilty of professional misconduct contrary to the code of conduct regulating legal practice in the country.

However, a Human Rights Court presided over by Justice Gifty Agyei Addo on 11 July quashed the GLC’s decision.

According to the court, the charges of touting and personal advertisement based on which the GLC suspended the lawyer were not in accordance with the law.

In the court’s view, the Disciplinary Committee of the GLC exceeded its jurisdiction because the offence and punishment are not defined in law, and, accordingly, set aside the suspension.

Speaking on Ghana Yensom hosted by Chief Jerry Forson on Accra 100.5FM Friday, 27 July, Mr Sosu said: “There are a lot of injustices and inequities in Ghana, and, if you are not influential and not from a political family, people will want to violate your rights.”

Regarding the quashing of the ban imposed on him, Mr Sosu said: “The Lord has never disappointed me in life and I say Hallelujah over the victory recently.

“The lifting of the ban was an unimaginable intervention by God and I say this to the glory of God. I had to raise seven prayer alters when the ban was placed on me. This was prophetic, the hand of God was deeply involved in it.”
