In response to reports of thefts of unaccompanied luggage at the Kotoka International Airport, the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has announced that it is taking measures to address the issue.

The GACL in a press statement released on June 16, 2024, said it has taken note of the complaints and outlined its plan to salvage the situation.

"The attention of the Management of the Ghana Airports Company Limited has been drawn to a publication in the news media on the handling of some unaccompanied baggage at the Kotoka International Airport.

“Management has taken note of the concerns raised in the publication and is taking the needed steps to immediately investigate and address it," part of the statement read.

As part of their security enhancement strategy, a report by citinewsroom.com stated, GACL announced measures to limit access to sensitive areas within the airport, specifically targeting non-travellers and unauthorised personnel.

This move aims to bolster the security of baggage hold zones and other critical areas.

The company also issued a stern warning, stating that anyone attempting to engage in theft, extortion from travellers or any action that would damage GACL's reputation would be met with strict legal penalties.

"Anyone found culpable in any act of thievery or extortion which negatively impacts our cherished passengers and additionally brings the image of the Ghana Airports Company Limited into disrepute will be dealt with according to the full rigors of the law," the statement added.

The GACL also reassured passengers of their unwavering commitment to safety and security.

"Management wishes to assure the general public of its commitment to ensure that operations at the airport are safe and secure for our travellers," the statement said.
