Tamale (Northern Region), 13 Jan.,

Mr. Mustapha Ali, member of parliament for Gulkpegu-Sabongida in Tamale, has asked the department of urban roads to carry out effective supervision of road works in the municipality to ensure that the capital investments being made are not wasted. He was speaking in Tamale at the weekend when he inspected a number of projects in his constituency including the kukuo drainage project which the youth in the area have described as "poor contractual work." Mr. Ali asked the department to sanction contractors found to be doing shoddy work by asking them to rectify the defects. He noted that the warning by President Jerry John Rawlings, to deal with people involved in corrupt practices must serve as a guide to all. The MP commended the residents of Kukuo for their vigilance, adding that he will make the inspection of projects in his constituency a regular feature to ensure that the tax payers money is safeguarded. Mr. Mustapha praised contractors working on ward "E" and Zogbeli drainage projects for the good work being done. Mr. Theodore Quaye, Municipal Engineer, said the concern expressed by the Kukuo youth about the execution of the drainage project is genuine and asked other communities to emulate them. He said technician engineers will be attached to the project to check shoddy work. Mr.. Alhassan Abukari Assembly Member for Kukuo, appealed to the MP to help provide the area with toilet facilities.
