Our cameras caught the NPP Member of Parliament for Lawra constituency, Anthony Abayifaa Karbo affectionately called Lawra Jay-Z, in a queue buying porridge on Friday on his way to Parliament house in Accra.

This act though exemplary is contrary to the wide-held perception about politicians who spin and spun, wine and dine whilst poverty drives the masses to settle for the ‘lowest’ and ‘affordable ’delicacies.

Meanwhile, the act is not entirely unlikely about the Lawra lawmaker as he is known for his grass root activism, a trait which doesn't appear to have been lost with his rise to office, as is in the case of other MPs.

Politicians often wallow with the concept that “starve them and by election time they will be dying of hunger and when you provide them food, you are a messiah” so the politicians seem to say.

Electorate will not get a cup of ‘gari’ until election year and because of their thumps, the aspiring MP or President, who doesn’t get out of his air-conditioned fully computerised four-wheel drive, will personally send the cup of ‘gari’ to them, a trait which is a bane in Ghanaian politics.

In a short discussion with his Press aide, Kofi Hagan, he said: "Hon. Karbo has always been a man of the people and likes to stay there. He does not see his election as an elevation for which he need to detach because those are his people and what they do he also does same. That is how he connects with the masses."

We urge MPs and politicians to emulate this singular act from Hon. Karbo in their dealings with their constituents and the Ghanaian citizenry.
