The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is accusing the Mahama-led administration of deliberately putting the life of their Presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo, in danger.
According to the party, it has obtained credible intelligence report that suggests that the President and some individuals sympathetic to his government are plotting to bring harm in the way of their standard bearer and his running mate.
The claims come on the back of the arrest of the three ex-South African Police officers who are in Ghana at the behest of the NPP.
Addressing a news conference in Accra Thursday, acting chairman of the Danqua-Busia-Dombo tradition, Freddie Blay, said the party is alert and will not allow anyone to comprise the security of their candidate and his running mate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
“We go as far as to say that the President and his government are deliberately allowing the life of his main competitor for the 2016 presidential race to be endangered. We know of the active role that key political players in NDC such as its deputy general secretary Kwaku Anyidoho at the party headquarters and others from the flagstaff house are playing to falsely accuse Nana Akufo-Addo of importing mercenaries and using that as pretext to criminalize and neutralize this legitimate effort of merely protecting our presidential candidate, his running mate and their spouses.
“At this juncture it is important we disclose to the general public that the NPP has been receiving intelligence report over a period of time that some people allegedly sympathetic to the government are planning to harm our presidential candidate Nana Akufo-Addo and his running mate and blame it falsely on an internal NPP attack,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the three South Africans who were picked up while offering military drills to some youth of the NPP have been put before court.
