Former President John Mahama has come under barrage of criticisms for turning the funeral celebration of the late Queen mother of Asante, Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II into a political campaign ground.

According to policy analyst and political commentator, Mr. Frank Aboagye Danyansah, it was unnecessary and out of place for the former President to turn the funeral ground into funfair to show his popularity in the region.

“It was a funfair which is out of place. They should not have turned Manhyia Palace into a campaign ground while Asanteman is mourning”, the 2016 parliamentary candidate for Obuasi East spoke on Nhyira FM morning show hosted by Kofi Asante.

Supporters of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region besieged Kumasi Airport to welcome the former President to Manhyia Palace to attend the funeral celebration of Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II who dead at age 111.

There are indications the former president John Dramani Mahama is bent on occupying the highest position of the land again in 2020 and so he is prepared to do whatever he can to revitalize this ambition.

Reports suggested that the ex-president was planning to take advantage of the funeral to enhance his presidential ambition.

According to the reports, members of Mr. Mahama’s camp have realized that the entire country’s focus is on the Asantehemaa’s funeral and so they took advantage of the solemn event to push their political agenda.
