Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin has express confidence in the National Democratic Congress (NDC)'s bid to return to power in 2020, insisting the party will "bounce back".

According to him, there were so many factors which accounted for the NDC's loss in the 2016 elections, highlighting the party's desire to return to power as soon as possible.

The NDC was dealt a huge blow during the 2016 elections after its candidate, John Mahama was handed a heavy defeat by the Nana Akufo-Addo led New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The party's representatives in Parliament also decreased drastically after again losing 40 seats to the NPP, sealing the NDC's fate as the minority of the House. A 13-member committee led by Professor Botchwey was subsequently formed to help uncover the root causes of the party's defeat.

Earlier this week the committee presented a 455-page report detailing its findings with regards to the causes of the NDC's defeat in the 2016 polls.

And although the party has refused to make public the full content of the report, Bagbin believes the recommendations of the Prof. Botchwey Committee would help the party stage a return in 2020.

“I think that the NDC is getting itself ready for the 2020 elections,” the MP for Nadowli-Kaleo constituency said. According to him, the NDC has been putting in place measures to ensure it returns to power in the next elections.

Bagbin has been tipped as a possible presidential candidate for the NDC going into the 2020 polls, meaning he could take over from John Mahama.

However, the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament had some kind words for the former president. In his view, Mahama did his best as President of Ghana, while insisting the NDC's defeat was down to "so many" factors.
