Former Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo has called on the Lands and Natural Resources Minister, John Peter Amewu to render an unqualified apology to Ex-President John Dramani Mahama.

Mr. Peter Amewu is quoted to have described Ex-President Mahama as a "conman".

He is said to have used such description for the Ex-President following the latter's assessment of the current administration's anti-galamsey crusade.

The Minister's comment has not therefore sunk down well with Mr. Ofosu Ampofo, who doubles as Director of Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and wants Mr. Peter Amewu to "respect" the former President.

“I’ve never insulted President Kufour. I’ve never insulted Nana Akufo-Addo. I’ve never insulted any President who’s not part of my part because he’s not in my party. I may disagree but I won’t insult him. And I expect the Minister now to render an apology, an unqualified one of course, to President Mahama for describing him in those unprintable words”, he said.

He further stated emphatically on Peace FM's Kokrokoo that “Ex-President Mahama is not a conman . . . he is a very decent person”.

Touching on the menace of illegal mining in the country, Mr. Ofosu Ampofo called on President Akufo-Addo to support small-scale miners to resolve the issue.

According to him, small-scale mining is not illegal and so it is prudent that the President looks at the "concession owners. Let us support them. Let them set up their small-scale mining" and as a result, use them "to create avenue to employ the galamsey people because already, they have knowledge there”.
