Deputy General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party [NPP], Nana Obiri Boahen, has slammed former President Mahama for lying to Ghanaians that the NPP is training thugs ahead of the 2020 elections.

According to him, the statement by the NDC flagbearer is a Kingdagatern comment which should not be taken seriously.

The astute lawyer has described the situation as worrying, fearing that that singular decision can destabilize and distract the Akufo-Addo led government.

Speaking in an interview with Kwame Tutu on Anopa Nkomo on Kingdom FM 107.7, Nana Obiri Boahen said, “I don’t understand why former President Mahama will lie to Ghanaians, Mahama and NDC are just not serious Ghanaians should just ignore them and focus on nation-building.”

Nana Obiri Boahen, he doesn’t understand why a former President will resort in reckless propaganda to deceive Ghanaians to gain political power.

Background

Former President John Mahama has alleged that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is planning to wreak havoc and plunge the country into chaos during the 2020 elections.

He said he knows of a letter by the Upper West Security Council requesting that some members of the governing NPP be presented for combat training for next year’s election.

The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has denied claims by the presidential candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) that the party is training thugs to disrupt the 2020 polls.

In a statement issued Sunday and copied to Joy News, NPP’s Director of Communications, Yaw Buabeng Asamoah, said no such thing is being done.

“The NPP emphatically denies any knowledge or participation in any wild claim of ‘military training’ to disrupt the upcoming elections in 2020,” the statement said.
