The office of former President John Dramani Mahama has denied reports that the embattled CEO of Menzgold Company Limited, Nana Appiah Mensah (NAM1) was issued a diplomatic passport when the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was in power.

According to Joyce Bawah Mogtari, an aide to Mr Mahama, the allegation was made by a vice-chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Michael Owari Wadie, in a radio interview in Accra.

Reacting to the claim, Ms Mogtari said the allegation is “spurious and false”.

She also, in a Facebook post, stated that Mr Mahama and his wife, Lordina Mahama, have no investments with the gold dealership firm.

Mahama Administration did not issue NAM1 a diplomatic passport

There appears a desperate attempt, unsuccessful so far, by the NPP to drag former President John Mahama and other executives of the NDC into the unfolding MenzGold saga.

Fact though is that neither Mr Mahama nor his wife has any investments in MenzGold and the spurious claims by the NPP’s vice chairman that Nana Appiah was issued with a diplomatic passport by the NDC administration is just what it is, spurious and false.

Such lies being peddled by an obviously desperate government will not change the views and disappointments of Ghanaians in the Nana Addo administration.

Thank you.

Ghanaian authorities have declared NAM1 wanted for defrauding by false pretences and issued a warrant for his arrest as well as of his wife and sister, both directors of Menzgold, which has been unable to pay its several tens of thousands of customers’ extra values and principal capital since August last year.

This was after the Securities and Exchange Commission shut down the firm’s gold vault market over regulatory infractions.
