Charles Owusu, a former official of the Forestry Commission, has expressed his belief that President John Dramani Mahama had the potential to reset the country and correct the mistakes of the previous government.
However, he is now disappointed by some of Mahama’s actions, particularly regarding the dismissal of officials perceived to be politically biased.
According to Owusu, when a new government takes over and removes certain individuals based on alleged political affiliations, it does not reflect well on the country.
He explained that he initially believed that Mahama, due to his limited term in office, would resist such pressures and foster a more inclusive governance approach.
Charles Owusu asserted that while the president has not committed any constitutional crime by dismissing people from his government, he could have handled the situation better.
Speaking in an interview on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo on March 28, 2024, Owusu stated, “These actions are damaging the country. When Mahama became president, I expected him to be bold enough to put an end to certain negative traits in government, especially since he is serving his second and final term.
“However, when I saw him repeating the mistakes of the past, I felt disappointed. It now seems that whenever there is a change in government, everyone must leave to make way for new appointees.”
His comments were made in relation to petitions submitted to the Council of State regarding the potential removal of Chief Justice, Gertrude Araba Torkornoo.
