Former President John Mahama has accused his successor, Nana Akufo-Addo of running his mouth whilst in opposition, but says the latter is unable to match his words with deeds now that he is in government.

For instance, he said, President Akufo-Addo had chastised the Mahama-led administration of failing to pay contractors who executed various government projects.

“This is not rocket science”, he said, teasing the president’s promise to pay all the contractors within 100 days in office.

But many contractors are yet to receive their pay, former President Mahama said to teeming supporters of the opposition National Democratic Congress after the party’s Unity Walk at Techiman in the Brong Ahafo region on Saturday.

A similar exercise has been held in the Northern, Greater Accra, Central and Western regions of Ghana. It is aimed at fostering unity among members of the party after a near disintegration in the NDC’s abysmal performance during the 2016 general elections.

Perhaps speaking from experience, when contractors are not paid, Mr. Mahama said, it leads to financial difficulties because there would not be money in the system for people to buy things they need.

Turning his attention to his party, the former president urged persons holding executive positions in the party not to influence any election process to ensure that whoever is elected is the choice of the people.

He was confident the NDC will bounce back strongly to defeat the governing New Patriotic Party in the 2020 general elections.

It is not the number of times a man falls which is important but the number of times he gets up, he sent signal to the NPP as the crowd cheers him.
