The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) will officially open its 7th Quadrennial National Delegates Conference on Monday, January 5, 2026, in Accra, with President John Dramani Mahama to perform the opening ceremony.

The conference, which also serves as GNAT’s 54th National Delegates Conference, is being held under the theme ‘Education and Development: The GES @ 50 – Reflecting, Reviewing, Revising and Growing the Profession and the Unions.’

It brings together teacher representatives from across the country to deliberate on key issues affecting education delivery, teacher welfare and unionism in Ghana.

President Mahama’s participation highlights the importance government attaches to the teaching profession and its role in national development, particularly as the Ghana Education Service (GES) marks 50 years of existence.

The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, is the Special Guest of Honour, while veteran statesman Opanin Kwame Pianim is chairing the conference.

Delegates are expected to adopt resolutions on teacher welfare, education policy reforms and strategies to strengthen the teaching profession as the sector navigates ongoing reforms and institutional milestones.
