President John Mahama and the ruling National Democratic Congress will lose the 2016 elections if the erratic power supply (dumsor) in the country is not solved, ace journalist Kwesi Pratt Junior has observed.

According to him, the various infrastructural achievements the government is boasting about will not count in the elections if the unstable power situation is not fixed.

“No matter what has been achieved up till now, if we enter 2016 With the kinds of problems we have in power supply, the Mahama administration will have to say goodbye to power,” Pratt stated on Radio Gold’s ‘Alhaji and Alhaji’ Saturday.

He continued: “If we enter 2016 with the kind of problems we have in electricity and so on, this administration will have to say goodbye to political power. So it is important to pay attention to the power crisis.

“I think that it is absolutely important to have some consistency from the government in this power crisis”.

Ghana is undergoing severe power crisis as a result of the shedding of close to 450 Megawatts by state power producer Volta River Authority as a result of a fall in production due to low water level at the hydro stations and lack of regular gas supply to power the thermal plants in the country.

Domestic consumers, per a load shedding timetable used by state power distributor Electricity Company of Ghana, goes off the national grid for 12 hours every two days while industrial zones went off for two straight days and gets connected back to the grid for six days uninterrupted.
