Residents of Nkwaese, near Nkoranza in the Brong-Ahafo Region on Wednesday had a rude shock as a young man in the community allegedly chopped off the head of his own uncle.
Kwaku Owusu, 26, a farmer now in police custody, reportedly went to farm with his 50-year-old uncle, Kamalia Moshie, a palm-wine tapper, in the early hours of Wednesday and purportedly carried out the dastardly act.
The Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Christopher Tawiah, confirming the incident to DAILY GUIDE, said it occurred in the bush around 6:30 am.
ASP Tawiah said the suspect, after committing the heinous crime, moved to Nhyiaem, a nearby community which is about 10km away carrying the severed head of his uncle in a fertilizer sack.
He said at about 10:00 am a ‘Good Samaritan’ at Nhyiaem spotted the suspect with bloodstains in his T-shirt holding the sack that was soaked with blood.
He suspected something fishy and therefore approached the suspect. Upon a search he saw a human head. He then raised an alarm which attracted other people to the scene and Kwaku Owusu was grabbed and sent to the Nkoranza Police Station.
During police preliminary interrogations he admitted committing the offence and claimed that a certain man at Jerusalem, a community in the Nkoranza area ,contracted him to bring a human head, and that he was taking the severed head to him.
According to the Police PRO, investigations were underway to arrest all the people connected to the act, while the remains of the deceased had been deposited at the St Theresa’s Hospital, Nkoranza, for preservation.
Meanwhile, DAILY GUIDE has learnt that the Regional Police Commander, DCOP Maxwell Sakipasgo Atingane, yesterday dispatched a crime management team led by the Regional Crime Officer, to the area to fast-track investigations into the barbaric act.
