Man charged for possessing fire arm

An Accra circuit court on Wednesday granted bail to one Nii Djaase Teye Otchie, 46, for possessing fire arm without authority and threat of death.

The accused, who pleaded not guilty, was granted bail to the sum of GHc2,000 with three sureties, one to be justified and one to be a public servant.

Chief Superintendent of Police Duuti Tuoroka told the court presided over by Mr Francis Obiri that the complainant in the case is the Asafoatse of Lamgma, a suburb of Accra.

He said on August 6, 2013, at about 0900 hours, the complainant and two others went to a “Virgin” land at Lamgma to check whether some people had trespassed on the land.

According to the prosecution, the complainant saw the accused person from a distance holding a pump action gun and on seeing the complainant he fired and ordered him not to move.

“He further said, l will shoot you if you come to the plot again,” he added.

He said the complainant, for fear of his life, rang the police, who swiftly moved in and arrested the accused and the gun was retrieved together with five rounds of ammunition.

The Chief Superintendent said when the accused was asked to produce documents covering the gun; he failed to do so, saying that, the gun was for his father.

He said the gun had been sent to the crime laboratory for analysis.
