Manhyia North MP withdraws case against Wontumi

The Manhyia North MP Collins Owusu Amankwah who was allegedly assaulted by the Ashanti regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party has written to the Police to discontinue the assault case against his assailant.

Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, is currently facing charges in a court in Kumasi for attacking a public officer.

However, a letter written by lawyers of the MP to the Police and intercepted by StarrFMonline.com said “ We act as solicitors for Hon. Collins Owusu Amankwah and Mr. Felix Ibrahim and it is on that instruction that we write.

“Our clients are complainants in the above mentioned case against the Ashanti regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako. Our clients have instructed us to their decision to pursue settlement and have accordingly instructed us to serve you notice of their said intention”.

It continued: “We would be grateful if you could graciously suspend further action on the case to enable the parties in good faith resolve the issue in pursuit of the said settlement”.

Chairman Wontumi reportedly attacked the MP and his constituency secretary, whilst monitoring the ongoing limited voter registration exercise.

The MP later reported the matter to the police at Tafo Pankrono.

Subsequently, the Ashanti Regional Police Command issued a warrant for Wontumi’s arrest to assist in investigations.

Chairman Wontumi on Tuesday reported himself to the police but was later detained forcing party supporters to besiege the Police station demanding the Chairman’s release.
